A 67-year-old member from Lincolnshire has received £219,000 compensation following the devastating diagnosis of mesothelioma. This cancer affects the lining of the lungs and is usually caused by asbestos.

Antony* was exposed to asbestos when he was employed in the manufacture and development of anti-aircraft guns from 1974 until 1983.

He started as a fitter and then moved to the workshop where he was responsible for the development of testing of various items, including anti air-aircraft guns and gun mounts. There was no control exercised by the employer to which workers were exposed to asbestos in the manufacturing process.

Unite Legal Services attended to Antony at his home and investigated the claim urgently. The employer refused to accept blame.

Unite Legal Services commenced Court proceedings on behalf of the member and, as a result, the employer’s insurer agreed to settle the claim for compensation of £219,000.
