Chris B's Story

Thanks to the support of Unite Legal Services I have now received compensation for my injuries, above what I initially expected. Unite Legal Services were very helpful and secured compensation on my behalf.

Chris is employed as an operator at a plant that produces nutritional supplements where he is required to carry out repetitive, heavy moving and handling tasks. He was not provided with adequate training and duties were not properly risk assessed. As a result of this ongoing negligence on the part of his employer, Chris developed a hernia. 

Chris, through Unite Legal Services, was contacted by a specialist personal injury solicitor to discuss his case. Chris’ solicitor took steps to obtain supportive witness evidence from his colleagues who were able to confirm the nature of his employment.

Unite Legal Services funded a medical report from a Consultant General Surgeon which assisted Chris’ case by setting out the injuries which he sustained as a result of manual handling activities at work. The expert confirmed that Chris’ employment had contributed to the development of a right inguinal hernia.

Following receipt of the supportive report, negotiations commenced between Chris’ solicitor and the representatives of his employer until a £5,000 settlement was agreed. This was within the range of awards a court would likely make and represented fair compensation for Chris’ injury. Due to the assistance of Unite Legal Service, Chris was able to secure compensation quickly without the need for court proceedings to be raised.
