Danielle's story

I didn’t know that Unite Legal Services would help me get compensation for an accident outside my work. My friend told about the extended legal service after I had an accident at a local bowling club and thank goodness she did.

Danielle was involved in an accident while attending a charity function at a local bowling club. 

As Danielle exited the premises at the end of the evening, she walked along a path which was located next to the bowling club. There was no lighting in the area to highlight any hazards on the path, which was also slippery due to a build-up of moss that hadn’t been cleared. 

Danielle fell on the path, fracturing her kneecap and also damaging the ligaments. As a result of her injuries, she was absent from work for two months. 

Danielle was supported by Unite Legal Services to claim compensation for her injuries. Liability was denied by the insurance company acting on behalf of the local bowling club on the basis that the path was clean. This was a stark contrast to the photographs that Danielle had provided following her accident. 

As a result, court proceedings were raised in the Court of Session, Edinburgh, as Unite Legal Services considered that Danielle had reasonable prospects of success.    

Unite Legal Services funded a medical report from a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, which assisted Danielle’s case by setting out the injuries that she sustained. As soon as court proceedings were raised, Danielle was offered £15,000 by the insurance company representing the bowling club. This was discussed with Danielle who confirmed that she wanted to accept the offer. 

Through Unite Legal Services, Danielle was successful in securing compensation for her injuries but, more importantly, the local bowling club has now cleaned the path to ensure that further accidents are avoided. 

Danielle said:
