Michael Y's story
Thanks to the support of Unite Legal Services, I have now received compensation for this accident and my employer has been forced to change its working practices, making my workplace safer for all of my fellow colleagues moving forward.
Michael was involved in an accident during the course of his employment as a process engineer. On the day of the accident, Michael was removing a mould containing epoxy resin from an oven, when resin spilled over his left thumb, causing him to suffer a burn injury.
Michael had never seen a risk assessment for this job, or received formal instructions on how best to remove the moulds from the oven. However, a risk assessment was completed after the accident, and gloves and tongs were provided to employees to remove the moulds from the oven.
Michael sought the support of Unite Legal Services, and was put in touch with a specialist personal injury solicitor to discuss his case. Due to the specialist knowledge of the solicitor appointed by Unite Legal Services, a settlement was negotiated with the insurance company acting on behalf of his employer. No court action was required, which meant that Michael was able to secure his compensation quickly and without the need to attend court.
Unite Legal Services funded a medical report from a consultant in emergency medicine, which assisted Michael’s case by setting out the injuries he sustained as a result of the accident at work. Negotiations commenced between Michael’s solicitor and the insurance company representing his employer. An offer of £2,200 was put forward in full and final settlement. This offer was discussed with Michael and accepted.
As this case was funded by Unite Legal Services, Michael kept 100% of his compensation.
Michael said:
“I would like to thank Unite Legal Services for all of their help. I could not have obtained this compensation without them.”
