Unite is sending campaigners to the AGM of CK Hutchison in Hong Kong (18 May) to demand the reinstatement of four unfairly sacked workers at the Port of Felixstowe.
Four Unite officials with expertise in capital strategies and investor relations will be engaging with CK shareholders and making the case of the four sacked union activists known with calls for their reinstatement.
The union is also seeking meetings with key investors of the CK Hutchison group including Allianz, Barclays, Blackrock, Goldman Sachs and HSBC.
The campaign to reinstate the four workers follows strike action at the Port of Felixstowe in 2022, which CK Hutchison owns. Unite believes the four workers were unfairly targeted for dismissal because of their trade union activities despite their long service and exemplary records. Legal action is ongoing.
Gail Cartmail, head of executive operations for Unite, said: “Felixstowe may be 6,000 miles from Hong Kong, but that isn’t far enough for CK Hutchison to escape responsibility for its unwarranted attack on our members.
“Unite will make sure investors know exactly how and why these workers have been sacked. CK Hutchison can do the right thing right now. Reinstate the Felixstowe Four and end this injustice.”
